ACM@UC - Membership Chair / Secretary

What Did I Learn?
From a technical perspective, I learned about many means of hosting meetings, collaborating with others, and organizing a Hackathon - all virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Much of the documentation and relevant files used by ACM@UC are organized in Google drive, so I gained a lot of experience with that as well. Professionally, I acquired better public speaking abilities by helping run bi-weekly meetings, participating in executive decision-making processes, and social outreach to new members. Handling problems in a professional manner is a major responsibility for all executive members of ACM, so my overall professionalism and maturity has improved as well.

What Did I Learn?
Working on this game has taught me many technical skills including modeling 3D structures and landscapes within the Roblox Studio IDE, increased understanding of Lua/Luau scripting languages, and basic UI/UX design. I also created over 30 player animations. I learned how to create and manage extensive development-related documentation, communicate with a player-base, and direct a small development team.

Dungeons and Bearcats - Dungeon Master

What Did I Learn?
In this club, I picked up a lot of communication skills. Running a D&D campaign requires lots of planning and preparation prior to each session with anywhere from 3-6 other people. As a Dungeon Master, you are required to carefully consider the consequences of each player's actions, accurately portray the emotions of in-game characters, and describe an assortment of scenarios in a way that everyone can understand. Although this club is an outlet for a non-technical hobby of mine, I do believe much of the time-management, organization, and communication skills I gained from it will carry on into my professional career.

What Did I Learn?
Throughout my time tutoring high school students in HAC, I learned a lot about how to explain difficult concepts to people who have no prior background knowledge of them. I adapted to the various learning styles of each student and taught them in ways they could understand and relate to best. In addition, much of the math tutoring I did gave me some well-needed review of lower-level problems I have not needed to exercise in a long time. With many students, it helped for me to be sociable so as to better relate to them and make learning more exciting. Helping junior high and high school students has trained me to be a better listener, teacher, and problem-solver.
